Helping People in Crisis - Course Overview

This one-day course has been designed to train individuals to apply the M.A.N.E.R.S model of Psychological First-Aid when assisting individuals in emotional, critical or traumatic incidents.


Psychological First-Aid is a crisis intervention model that seeks to re-establish immediate coping skills, provide support and if possible aid to restore to pre-crisis state. This model can be applied immediately to yourself or another person in a high stress or crisis condition. 


M.A.N.E.R.S is a model of Psychological First-Aid which can be applied after critical incidents or other distressing situations. While it was originally designed for First Responders by Ambulance Victoria in Australia in can be also effectively applied by and to anyone in crisis state.  


Terminal learning objectives:


  • Participants will be able to identify, apply and demonstrate the M.A.N.E.R.S model in a variety of crisis situations.


This program is well suited to community support workers, teachers, first responders, military, parents, counselors and any other individuals that work in high stress environments.


Course Duration: 8 hours.
